James E. Thomison, Board Certified in Health Law, is a shareholder in the law firm of Walters Levine Klingensmith & Thomison, P.A. where he practices in the areas of health and corporate law. PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTSJim is licensed to practice law before all local and state courts in Florida. For approximately ten years, Jim served as in-house corporate counsel for Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. Jim has been actively involved in health care institutions for over fifteen years, primarily providing counsel on issues associated with managed care, corporate law, patient care and medical staff issues, affiliations, and regulatory matters. Jim is a member of the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar (Health Law Section), the American Health Lawyers Association, the Florida Hospital Association, the Florida Academy of Hospital Attorneys and the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He has attained Board Certification in Health Law from the Florida Bar Association and serves on the Board of Directors of the Florida Academy of Hospital Attorneys. Jim has provided services to physicians and trade associations on health care related issues, including analyzing the impact on client businesses of of pending and adopted legislation, and representing clients before state and federal administrative agencies and the Florida Legislature. For approximately five years, Jim was on the faculty of the University of Florida's College of Health Related Professions, where he taught in the Master of Business Administration and Health Sciences programs. He has lectured extensively before local, state and national health care and professional organizations. EDUCATION AND SCHOLASTICSJim received his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy, cum laude, from Auburn University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law. He received recognition from the Rho Chi Honor Society and was a recipient of the Lynn Stanford Blake Scholarship and the James O. Walker Award. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENTJim has performed volunteer work for Children's Miracle Network and youth sports programs, and is a past member of the Board of Directors of Porters Oaks Community Center. Since relocating to the Florida West Coast area, Jim has been active with the American Heart Association, the Pelican Man's Bird Sanctuary, and First Step, Inc. |
